Here is a pattern for a child's crown I made. You can print it out on normal 8.5 x 11 cardstock. I am letting the boys decorate it to wear for our New Year's celebration tonight. Feel free to use it. Happy New Year!

Healthy-ish Cupcakes

Yesterday, I made 60 healthy-ish cupcakes for Nicholas and Lucas's school birthday parties. The recipe was passed along by Nick's teacher and I am not sure where it came from originally. All the kids (and myself) loved them. Here is the recipe:

Applesauce Cake/Cupcakes

2 1/2 cups unbleached white flour

1 1/12 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup honey or sugar

2 cups applesauce

1 egg

1/2 cup oil

Mix together flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder. In a separate bowl combine the honey/sugar, applesauce, egg and oil. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir to mix. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan or make them into cupcakes. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes if using 9x13 or 18 minutes if doing cupcakes.

Nick's Tooth

Nick lost his first tooth Oct. 22 2011. He is almost 6. He was very excited about it. I made the boys this moster pillow. They put their tooth in the mouth pocket until the tooth fairy exchanges it for some money. They love it!

Cutie Pie Jayden was the lead guy (Thomas Edison) in a skit at school this morning. He had to speak in front of the whole school K-10th grade. He and his buddies did such a good job my eyes were tearing up a little. He never ceases to amaze me.

Today is a big day! Nicholas and Lucas start kindergarten and Jayden starts second grade. They are going to a brand new school The John Adams Academy. I take them to school at 8am and pick up Nick and Luke at 12 and Jayden at 3:40. When I dropped them off we did a scavenger hunt around the classroom and then the teacher read The Kissing Hand book. I can't wait to hear all about their first day.

Reward and Chore System

We have a new reward and chore system in our house. It is working really well. When one of the boys does something we like, he gets a stick. They each have their own color of stick so they can not get mixed up. If he does something we don't like a stick can be taken away. Each stick is worth a certain amount of money and at the end of the week he can cash it in.

Mother's Day this year was wonderful. We went to church and the boys (reluctantly) got up and sang a song with the primary in sacrament. After church we went to our siblings home and the men BBQ'd for us.

James Blunt and Christina Perri Concert

Annette (my SIL) and I got tickets to see James Blunt and Christina Perri in Reno for Mother's Day. We had so much fun. First we went to eat

Then when we were looking for parking when alien ship clouds appeared in the sky. RUN!

Christina Perri opened the concert. She has a beautiful voice. Her most popular song and the one that helped quit her waitressing job in L.A. is Jar of Hearts. We were very pleasantly suprised she was there.

So, Annette is amazing because our tickets were for the back and side of the stage. Annette noticed chairs in the middle and a little more forward that were empty so went and sat in them. Much better, but not good enough for Annette. She then noticed TWO seats a little farther up so we scurried up to them. WAY BETTER we were about 5 seats back from the stage! I thought that was great but Annette kept scoping out the place. TWO FRONT ROW SEATS were OPEN! No freggin way. You can guess what we did. We couldn't believe it were were in the very front row for the whole concert. It was unreal and so much fun.

During weekday mornings this is what Hunter and I have been up to…

we go to Montessori, sort of. While Lucas and Nicholas are in the other rooms learning, Hunter and I hang out in an empty toddler room. Usually this classroom is used on Saturdays for an 18 month-3.5 year-old Montessori class. He is so good and quite and I usually read and play with him. I bring our own toys because we don’t pay to use this room. I do this because it takes nearly a half hour to drive to the school so it is not worth it to drive home just to turn around a couple hours later to pick up the boys. We are loving it.

My "old" neighbor, actually she is my age, has been asking many questions about my faith. It is humbling because sometimes it is difficult to answer her questions. I invited her and the missionaries over for dinner a few nights ago and afterward they gave her a mini lesson. When the missionaries left I showed her the movie “The Restoration”. She seems to feel good about it and is going to read the Book of Mormon.

Lucky Charms Lesson

I just LOOOOOVE this little guy. I can take him everywhere with me because he is just such a good baby. He has a very pleasant and calm demeanor about him with just a tad of seriousness. He is a studier. People will do the silliest things to get a smile out of him and he will just watch them mysteriously. He’ll usually give them a little grin when the show is over =). He cut a tooth and still hasn’t been grumpy. He is a trooper. He eats a tiny bit of rice cereal mixed with fruits, but still mainly nurses. We both like the cuddle time. Love him.

I had a dream the other two nights ago. The world was flooded by one after another tsunamis. My family was gone. It was deeply emotional and very vivid and detailed. I woke up in not the best of moods. Needless to say, I am worried about the future for my children. Not in our little family, but about the world I will send them out into. A Couple Things

It is late. I am really tired, but I want to write this down so I don't forget. Tonight I was listening to the boys chatting in the other room and Lucas asked a very common question I here these days "what is your very favorite thing in the whole world?" Usually the answerer will say whatever it is that he is doing or is playing with at the time asked. Tonight Jayden answered "Ummm, I don't know Heavenly Father and Jesus, I guess." I just smiled to myself.
Yes. My Jayden is maturing. Don and I used to worry a little about Jayden and his...well...lack of empathy at times. We believe at times he has acted negatively to his brothers out of jealousy. Today I was pleasantly suprised with him. See we have a rule that legos are not allowed in the van for obvious reasons. Jayden and Lucas snuck them in. Grrr. Nicholas tattled, Jayden was mad about that, told on Lucas and it was just not very pretty sound. Lucas threw a lego in the direction of Hunter and then...I heard the loudest scream ever. Jayden was screaming and then crying for me to get the lego that he thought was with Hunter. He knows that Hunter will put everything in his mouth and he was VERY worried. Wow! I immediately pulled over and checked all around the carseat, but could not find the little piece. I thanked Jayden for taking such good care of his little brother. Now that is brotherly love.

We spent the 4th of July by going to church, resting, then watching the fireworks at Loch Raven school. It was a great family oriented event where the kids could play ball and run around in the grass. When it got dark we fired off our own fireworks then watched the big show.

The Crying Prayer

Lately I have been working on being less protective as a parent. I need to let them experience minor pains so they can “learn the hard way” with some things. This morning as I walked by the boys’ room, I noticed Jayden had pulled out the drawer to his dresser that is also a bed. It makes a small space they can crawl into. I warned him that it might not be a good idea to play in there and continued to walk downstairs. About 5 minutes later all the boys were crying. My first instinct was to run up and see what happened, but I remembered I wasn’t going to be a “hover parent.” So they were crying and crying and I was getting anxious, but then the crying settled down and eventually stopped. A sighed a sigh of relief, then went up to ask what had happened. Jayden said all of them crawled into the little space and got stuck. Jayden and Nicholas were able to get out but Luke’s head was too big and he couldn’t get back out. Then he told me he prayed and Luke was able to get his head out. He said it was a “crying prayer” but it worked. I guess giving them more freedom is a good way to go.

Yippy! We made it to TERM (37) today. If baby comes now he will be fully “cooked”. He may be ready, but am I? Well, I am not sure if I will ever be ready for a 4th boy/baby so I might need a lot of prayers coming up soon. This morning Jayden and I had to run to the bus stop before the doors closed. On my way home I got quite a painful contraction so I better take it easy and slow down a bit.

My doctor said is in the head-down position, Whew! such a relief because both twins were breech. I have a month to go…I think. It’s getting pretty uncomfortable but I am not ready yet. I still have to finish my medical transcription class (in the home stretch) and get mentally prepared.

It really is hard to believe Lucas and Nicholas are 4 years old now. They are both growing up to be such individually wonderful people. They were born on the same day to the same parents, but really could not be more different. They get along great though – they compliment each other. Jayden is getting a long great with them too. I am so glad they are such buddies. Love them!
